Next ISTMA Europe meeting will take place in Barcelona, Spain, on October 20th and 21st, 2008. This meeting is organized by ISTMA – Europe and will be hosted by the Spanish National Association (FEAMM). The program will include visits to local companies and “Equiplast” trade show. Very soon complete program will be available on intranet members section.

Sandton Convention Centre (Johannesburg) was the site of a late-June meeting of the European section of the International Special Tooling & Machining Association, or ISTMA Europe. Representatives of member associations and companies from Italy, South Africa, Portugal, the Czech Republic, Spain, Finland and Turkey who attended the meeting analyzed recent ISTMA Europe activities under the Presidency of Fausto Romagnani.

The President of ISTMA Europe, Fausto Romagnani, participated in the opening ceremony of Mould Eurasia / Kalip Avrasya 2008, held in Istambul, on the 19th April 2008. An ISTMA overview and the (new) challenges of the Tooling Industry were the main topics on his presentation addressed to Turkish mouldmakers, exhibitors and sponsors. Also ISTMA General Manager, Eduardo Beira, made a presentation dedicated to the analysis of the Turkish tooling industry in the international market. This presentation was included in the technical program of the exhibition. Mould Eurasia exhibition was sponsored by ISTMA member UKUB - Turkish Mouldmaking Association.

Janez Poje has been appointed as ISTMA Europe Vice President for the period 2008-2010. The Slovenian representative has been unanimously elected during the last ISTMA Europe held in Zurich, Switzerland, on the 21st April 2008. Janez Poje is currently member of the managing board of Kovinoplastika, a tooling company based in the city of Loz, and the Chairman of Slovenian Tooling Industry, member of ISTMA integrated in the Slovenian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Gospodarska Zbornica Slovenije).

“Organization as a Driver of Business Improvements” is the slogan of the conference Orodjarstvo 2008 (Toolmaking 2008) scheduled to take place October 7–9 in Portoroz, Slovenia. The venue is the Hotel Slovenija. This will be the jubilee 30th edition of the event, and its focus is on organizing toolmaking business enterprises so that they can meet the challenges of the global marketplace, increasing environmental consciousness, and the need to manage costs through so-called lean manufacturing.
