MARKUS HESEDING FOR TECH-I9 MAGAZINE (PORTUGAL): «SUSTAINABILITY WILL BE A MARKET ACCESS CONDITION IN THE FUTURE»

Markus Heseding, ISTMA Europe President, was recently interviewed for TECH-i9 magazine, published by CEFAMOL – ISTMA member in Portugal - to share his opinion about sustainability on mouldmaking industry.

From a general perspective, Heseding's says that a commitment to sustainability is inevitable for mouldmakers, and it is (or will be) a customer requirement. Also, the focus should be on technical and technological developments, because "technology, skills and competences is what differentiates our industry".

When asked what companies gain from sustainability – and considering that the adoption of environmentally friendly measures is often seen as a high cost -, Markus Heseding answered "[s]ustainability will be a market entry strategy in the future. Customers will demand it, as will society and politics. Climate-neutral production in Europe is already rooted in the targets to be achieved. Of course, a lot of activities are costly, but many of them help to save money. It is just a matter of focusing on these issues. The costs are always made up for the benefits. Once the basic market conditions are currently based on sustainability, we face them as success factors. In fact, mouldmakers have a tradition of focusing on change. After all, besides the mouldmaking industry, who has ensured - in recent decades - that expensive materials were used more sparingly, that customers' energy bills could be controlled and industries could succeed on the world market in the most difficult economic conditions?"
