ISTMA newsletter #1, March 2007

Message from ISTMA secretariat: This is the first number of the ISTMA e-newsletter, to be mailed every quarter with information for the ISTMA associations and their members worldwide. We expect it may contribute for a better cooperation within the tooling community and for a better knowledge about ISTMA activities.

World Conference in Joensuu (Finland): program and all the information about the event are posted in World Conference option of the ISTMA website. Seco, Nokia and Perlos are the three main sponsors of the event. A technical program with speakers from all regions and a very attractive program of visits to Finish tooling companies are compelling reasons for companies to be present. A video about the Conference is available in the web site. An optional post Conference visit to Russia is also available (remember Joensuu is close to the Russia border). NEXT ISTMA meeting in Joensuu (Finland), 10th June: this will be an important meeting, with an agenda that will include final decisions about new ISTMA statutes, election of ISTMA officers for the next years (including the President) and decisions about the next ISTMA Word Conference. Pre meeting materials and information to be posted in Joensuu 2007 option of the website menu (members only). Country reports are expected from the national associations.

ISTMA statistics call for 2005 and 2006 data has been released. Forms for reporting results by associations are available in the association’s only home page of ISTMA website. Forms for data collection from companies are also available. National data (production, import and export data) and business ratios and wages data (companies survey) are now expected to be filled and send separated.

Business conditions reports for second semester 2006: Americas report (including data from Argentina) is already available and posted in the traditional format (see Business conditions option of members only section); Europe report will be available end of March. Updated historical reports (new format) will be available next quarter.

Executive Committee meeting, Frankfurt (30th November 2006): minutes and additional materials (including the 2006 report / 2007 budget, proposed new ISTMA statutes, ISTMA Global Partners and Multiple memberships decisions) are available in the home page of the members only section.

NTMA 2007 Convention: NTMA made the presentations for their last Convention (2nd February 2007) available to the worldwide tooling community through the Conference Hall section of ISTMA website. They are important contributions related to workforce development issues. Additional information about the meeting also available here.

ISTMA website (www.istma.org): A new option (Regional meetings) has been created, in the members only section of the ISTMA website, to post minutes and other materials from the ISTMA regional branches. Secretariats from the regional branches are expected to contribute with the minutes of the regional meetings, for a better common knowledge of the regions activities and discussions. Access to the new Terminology prototype web service is available for testing by national associations through a new menu option (Terminology prototype) in the associations only section of the site.

Regional branches meetings:
-Americas met last 2 February, in San Diego (USA). The minutes are available in the regional meetings option of the ISTMA website (members only)
- Asia is meeting next 29th March in Singapore.
- Europe Is meeting next 26th March in Budapest (Hungary). Pre meeting information for associations is available in ISTMA-Europe website

Next ISTMA newsletter expected to be released May 2007. Comments and feedback welcomed.
