TASA organized a parallel meeting with South Africa companies and institutions from the tooling community, which was also attended by some other Africa countries delegations.
The general assembly review current ISTMA business and decided for the expulsion of Australia from ISTMA membership, due to no payment of ISTMA fees for several years, and also considering the negative result of all the contacts that were tried with that association.
The assembly has accepted the proposal of SPETA, the Singapore association, to organize next annual general meeting, 25th March 2009, together with an international events Asia MEDTECH (a premier exhibition for companies manufacturing medical devices) and MTA 2009 (Manufacturing Asia exhibition). A business forum on Precision Engineering & Manufacturing is also expected. Country reports were presented by the national associations. A selection is available in the members only section (see Johannesbough 2008 annual meeting).
A nice social program and several visits complemented the event. ISTMA delegates and other delegates from South Africa and African countries visited Lapple (http://160.44.248.248) toolroom in Rosselyn (near Pretoria), where pressed parts are produced for BMW and other automobile OEMs.
